Applying for Certificates of Sponsorship
Employers must obtain a Certificate of Sponsorship for each foreign worker they wish to employ. When an employer receives a Certificate they will be given a reference number which can then be used by their prospective employee to apply for a Visa.
Businesses can apply for unrestricted Certificates, which means you can obtain as many Sponsorship Certificates as your business needs. You will have to give an approximation of how many Tier 2 and Tier 5 workers you intend to employ and provide evidence to prove that you need said workers. A shortage of skilled workers in fields such as engineering and hospitality would arguably provide justification.
Applying for restricted Certificates is more common, these are required for Tier 2 applicants on general work Visa’s. There are a limited number of restricted certificates available each month and businesses can make applications at the beginning of each month. Each application for a restricted Certificate will be considered on a points based system.
