Dr Watt No Longer Able to Practice Medicine in the UK

Dr Watt, who has been at the centre of the biggest patient recall in Northern Ireland has reportedly been removed from the Medical Register. This means, he will no longer be able to practice medicine in the UK.

Dr Watt, over the last couple of years, has caused great concern over his clinical practice and thus prompted an independent inquiry into his work.

The decision to remove Dr Watt from the Medical Register comes after he submitted a voluntary application to the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS). This hearing took place in a private setting, contrary to the usual public hearing.

The General Medical Counsel (GMC) have expressed their disappointment against MPTS in removing Dr Watt’s application from the register. This is due to the “immense harm” suffered by patients and their families, and the GMC felt it was “in the public interest for the allegations to be heard by the tribunal in an open and transparent way”.
