When can I apply for a Tier 2 Visa?
You can apply for a Tier 2 General Work Visa if you have been offered a skilled job in the UK and you’re outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland. Applicants will require a Sponsorship Certificate from a licensed sponsor. Applicants can apply for a Tier 2 Visa up to 3 months before they are due to begin work and should receive a decision within 3 weeks. A Tier 2 Visa will allow applicants to stay in the UK for a maximum of 5 years and 14 days but can be extended as long as the total stay is no longer than 6 years.
Eligibility for a Tier 2 Visa
Applicants must have a valid Certificate of Sponsorship, be able to show that they will receive an appropriate salary (generally at least £30,000), have sufficient savings to support themselves and in some circumstances applicants may be required to provide proof of a sufficient level of English.
Documents Required for Tier 2 Visa
Mandatory documents include the Certificate of Sponsorship from employer, a bank statement showing personal savings (applicant must have at least £945 in account 90 days prior to start date), valid passport or travel documents, tuberculosis test results and criminal record certification in some circumstances.
A criminal record certification will be required if the applicant will be working in education, healthcare, therapy or social services occupations. Certification for a period of 10 years in any country that the applicant has lived for over 12 months will be required in these circumstances.
