Tuesday 16thJune 2020 P.A.Duffy and Company Solicitors have this week served letters of claim on the Crown Solicitors Office on behalf of numerous clients who were interned between 1971 and 1975. We are challenging the lawfulness of our client’s internment based on the recent Judgment in R -v-Adams. Conal McGarrity, who acts for the former internees states: “We have requested that all files and papers relating to each of our client’s internment are released immediately. We have instructions to review the lawfulness of their detention under the earlier Civil Authorities (Special Powers) Act 1922 and latterly the Detention of Terrorists (NI) Order 1972 and will issue proceedings against the Secretary of State where we can establish that the proper consideration was not made of the individual Custody Orders contrary to the legal advices which were received by the Secretary of State at the time’.” If you, or a family member were interned during this period please contact us on 028 8772 2102 or email us at enquiries@paduffy.com. Conal McGarrity and Enda McGarrity act for the former internees. Front page coverage in The Ulster Herald, 17th June 2020.
